Comte de GOYON (Charles Marie Augustin) Military, Senator and President of the Conseil Général des CÔTES-DU-NORD. (Nantes 1803 - 1870) - Private autograph letter signed "Le Général Comte de GOYON" from SAINT-BRIEUC August 27, 1852, to His Imperial Highness Prince LOUIS NAPOLÉON BONAPARTE President (Future Napoleon III). 4 pages in-4°: "Monseigneur. In accordance with your orders, I went to the Conseil Général des Côtes du Nord; and you must have received the address it voted for you. Not unanimously, but by a large majority. I was received in the country as never before, not so much as a member of one of its oldest families, but as aide-de-camp to Your Imperial Highness. I think I can assure you of this; for all the Legitimists and Conservatives, who are by virtue of their higher positions, those with whom I have been and am most in touch, are, with very few exceptions, grateful and devoted to you. The Breton Agricultural Congress, made up of delegates from the five departments of Brittany, is due to meet in the 1st days of October in ST-BRIEUC. Mr. Préfet has kindly offered to put the Congress at the Préfecture's disposal, if the President is a man attached and devoted to your government. This Presidency is offered to me, and I am in a great hurry to put myself forward as a candidate. I am assured of success, and I can only accept, especially in my position close to you, with your assent...".
