Roger de LA BOURDONNAYE-BLOSSAC (1817-1891) The Plain of Persepolis, Iran, circa 1839. Watercolor from a sketchbook. Inscribed on the back "par de La Bourdonnaye". 17 x 25 cm. The young marquis Roger de la Bourdonnaye accompanied archaeologist Charles Texier on his trip to Armenia, Persia and Mesopotamia in 1839-1840. The book, published in 1842, is illustrated with several plates by this draftsman, engraved by the Lemaitre workshop.
