ROSTAND (E.): Chantecler. Fasquelle, 1910. In-8 contemporary shagreened calf, ornate ribbed spine, three gilt fillets on covers, gilt head, cons. cover (corners rubbed). First edition. Numbered copy on Japon (n°27) with the illustration enhanced in color by hand. Enriched copy with a beautiful letter from Rostand, mounted on the first blank page, addressed to a magazine editor who offered to publish an article (probably a former collaborator of Lemerre): "...I have searched my firebrands; and I have nothing there at the moment that I can give, bound as I am by treaty to Baschel. I take note of your flattering wish, and hope one day to be printed again under the yellow cover that housed my first verses...". A fine copy, from the Gandara library (armorial bookplate).
