Olympic Games/ summer, 1900/ Paris/ Aerostation/ - Lot 37
Olympic Games/ summer, 1900/ Paris/ Aerostation/ Just as there was a car rally, tug-of-war and cannon shooting, and even angling, there was also aerostation in the hustle and bustle of the Exposition Universelle, as these two pieces testify: a) Report. Retrospective museum of class 24. Aerostation at the 1900 Exposition Universelle Internationale in Paris. Report by the Installation Committee. In 70 highly illustrated pages, we fly over this fabulous history. Moisture marks on first few pages. 29,5x20; b) Round bronze medal, obverse: Exposition de Paris, by Georges Lemaire; reverse: with aerostat, anvil, camera, etc. attributed to M.L.Pautex, Geneva. Diameter: 5.3. Four balloon events took place in 1900, with Messrs. Balsan and de la Vaux as the heroes, as illustrated on a plate from the Musée de l'Air. There was also a kite contest, won by a Norman engineer from Caen, Mr. Joseph Lecornu (1864-1931).
