Olympic Games/ summer, 1900, 1920/ Paris/ Antwerp/ Archery/ - Lot 39
Olympic Games/ summer, 1900, 1920/ Paris/ Antwerp/ Archery/ Van Innis/ Assiette Souvenir Jubilaire, Ste de Tir à l'arc, La Fraternité, 1866-Bruxelle-1956, Hubert Van Hinnis (1866-1961)". Plate signed by the fine firm of Dupont-Fourdrigniers, Brussels. Diameter: 25.2 cm This archer-architect, born in 1866 in Elewijt, where he has his own statue, built up an extraordinary Olympic record of achievements, the very first in the Belgian saga. With two gold medals in Paris in 1900, and 4 in Antwerp in 1920... And three silver medals to boot, this archer is indeed the Belgian William Tell, the Nurmi of Flanders... Magic, he is also the great-great-grandfather of a world champion archer, Sarah Prieels....
