Antique trophy with four handles.
The Belgian Gaston Reiff (1921-1992), who became the first Belgian track and field champion on August 2, 1948 in London, confirmed his place in the legend by initialing three world records, the most memorable of which was the 3000m in Gävle. For this feat, the Ligue Royale Belge d'Athlétisme presented him with this trophy with the central engraving: "La Ligue Royale Belge d'Athlétisme à Gaston Reiff, Record du Monde du 3000m en 7'58''4/5, à Gävle, 12 août 1949".Trained by Alavoine, a close friend of both Zatopek and Gaston Meyer, the pope of athletics, Gaston, the divine bald man from Braine l'Alleud, left an indelible mark on the legend of running.
Rests on a cushion of 6 washers and a thick (6.5 cm) round wooden base...In silver-plated metal, hallmark: grenadier.
