Olympic Games/ Winter, 1948/ St Moritz/ Bib/
Bib
These second St Moritz Games, the first Winter Games of the resumption, were held in St Moritz. The experience of 1928, and Swiss neutrality during the war, facilitated the organization. A French Alpine skier from Val d'Isère saved French honor with three medals out of five, the only two of which were gold. He was unique in both the downhill and combined events, and crowned his exploits with a bronze medal in the slalom - he wasn't even 23! This daredevil, who later branched out into car racing, which cost him his life in 1962 at the age of 36, was a member of the great chivalry of sport... He used a bib like this one, in a large format... White numbers on a red background, embossed with "Anneaux olympiques-St Moritz". With the four hooks. Spiritual father of another knight of the sport, Jean-Claude Killy, a red track in Val d'Isère combines their two names, the K.O., the one for standing men.
