NASA. Rare. Superb view of the lunar surface photographed by - Lot 12
NASA. Rare. Superb view of the lunar surface photographed by the RANGERS 7 space probe a few minutes before it crashed on the lunar surface. The RANGERS missions were developed between 1961 and 1965 to prepare for man's arrival on the Moon. They involved sending space probes to the Moon, where they were destined to crash on the lunar surface. Before impact, the probes took photographs of the lunar surface, along with various flight parameters. These were transmitted to Earth in analog form, and then translated into silver photographs. Each probe was equipped with a small on-board photographic laboratory, which developed the photos taken before scanning them and sending them back to Earth in radio form. Ranger 7 is the first American space probe to successfully transmit close-up images of the lunar surface back to Earth. July 31st 1964.
