NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. Resembling a nightmari - Lot 254
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. HUBBLE TELESCOPE. Resembling a nightmarish beast emerging from a crimson sea, this celestial object is in fact a pillar of gas and dust. Called the Cone Nebula - so named because in images taken from the ground, it has a conical shape - this monstrous column lies in a region of turbulent star formation. This image, taken by the brand-new Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) aboard the Hubble Space Telescope, shows the cone's upper 2.5 light-years, a height equivalent to 23 million round trips to the Moon. The entire pillar is seven light-years long. 2002. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering on front. Label on back. 40.6 x 40.6cm with margins.
