Manufacture des GOBELINS - Clément BELLE (1722-1806, history painter, director of the Manufacture des Gobelins) and Jean-Etienne MONTUCLA (1725-1799, encyclopedist mathematician, first clerk of the Bâtiments royaux) / Autograph letter signed by Jean-Etienne MONTUCLA, 2 p petit in-4, Versailles, December 6, 1780, to Clément Belle, concerning a proposed regulation for the manufactory, stipulating that the first painter would be its director, and for the placement of 2 apprentice silversmiths - Following this, Clément BELLE wrote on nearly 3 pages the drafts of 2 letters of reply to Montucla (entirely in his own handwriting).
