Pierre Antoine GALLIEN (1896-1963, wood engraver and illustrator, figure of Montparnasse in the '20s, precursor of black line art) / Nice set consisting of correspondence with bookseller-publisher Emile NOURRY and preparatory drawings in his own hand: 1°) Emile Nourry (1870-1935, bookseller-publisher and folklorist author), 6 signed typed letters (chq 1 p in-4, on his letterhead) and 3 signed autograph letters (totaling 7 p in-8), 3 envelopes preserved, 1926-1929, about Gallien's collaboration with the Nourry publishing house ("Le piégeage des animaux de rapine", "la chasse de la sauvagine en bateau", "chasse au marais", sending proofs and prints for approval, projects (wolf hunting), thanks for sending portraits (nb: Gallien is known for his woodcut portraits), "go boldly to Fayard, the publisher of these books with yellow-orange covers, where your talent would be quite suitably employed, and show him your works, especially those where the black line dominates, they will be enough to recommend you" / 2°) Set of around 40 drawings, on paper and tracing paper, in pencil and black ink, all formats: note a study of bird flights in 3 states (original pen, 2 states of woodblock prints, 1 monogrammed), characters, dogs, children, etc.., tests of signatures and monograms / Enclosed: documentation on Nourry hunting and advertising.
