[Comte de SEGUR, 1753-1830, officer, diplomat and historian] - Elise VOÏART (Nancy 1786-1866, femme de lettres) / Autograph letter signed, 1 p large in-8 oblong (tear in center without harming text), Choisy-le-Roi, April 12, 1827, to Comte de Ségur, to whom she discusses her forthcoming work "due to the thought that Mr. Votre Frère has so ingeniously developed in his work on women", "that our sex derives all its virtues from love, and that as daughters, sisters, lovers, friends, wives and mothers, women offer the most touching examples of it, mine is entitled 'La Femme et les six Amours'". She has just learned that her correspondent has written "a charming song" entitled "Les Amours de Laure", and she asks for the favor of having it communicated to her, in the name of this parity of sentiment", "in order to justify with the weight of your authority my opinion and the boldness I have in presenting love as the type of virtue", she intends to offer a copy to Madame de Ségur, "a part of this work belongs to her, for in writing it her sweet and gracious memory has more than once offered itself to my thought, and I will only return to her all that she has inspired in me" (on the margin, a paper of notes has been pasted, specifying the circumstances of this letter) / Enclosed: portrait engraved by David
