HAÏTI - Gérard de CATALOGNE (Cap-Haïtien 1905-1974, sulphuro - Lot 457
HAÏTI - Gérard de CATALOGNE (Cap-Haïtien 1905-1974, sulphurous character who was a scandal-mongering journalist, publisher, nationalist polemicist and adviser to Haitian dictator François Duvallier) / Correspondence to writer and polemical journalist Henri BERAUD (1885-1958): 9 letters signed in his own hand and 1 autograph letter signed, Années 30, most on the letterhead of "Editions du Siècle", Catalogne wants to publish Béraud at all costs and insists on asking him for a book for its collection "l'Histoire vivante" or "le beau Pays de France" (in which Béraud would write a celebration of Lyon, his hometown); Enclosed is a list of authors approached for the latter collection (including Mauriac for Lisieux, Ajalbert for Beauvais and Louis Bertrand for Algiers), and a draft contract / Enclosed: 3 duplicates of Béraud's reply, 2 of which he had his wife write (that's what he used to do to ward off the unfortunate!), Béraud seems to have no regard for the character.
