RUSSIA - Jean PAVLOVSKI (1856-1924, Russian writer and journalist) / Archives from Jean SELZ (1904-1997, historian, writer and critic) concerning the relationship between Jean Pavlovsky and Anton Chekhov and the forthcoming book: "31 inédites lettres de Tchekhov à Jean Pavlovky traduites par Lily de Binder présentées par Jean Selz" followed by "Un amour inconnu de Tchekhov" (by Pavlovsky) and "Une interview de Tchekhov sur l'Affaire Dreyfus" (by Pavlovsky) - This important file resulted from Jean Selz's collaboration with Lily de Binder (Jean Pavlovsky's daughter) in 1968, It was intended to present the letters and texts translated into French, with explanatory notes by Selz (who retraced the historical context), and includes: the 3 autograph manuscripts by Jean Selz (25 p in-4, 5 p in-4 and 4 p in-4), with autograph notes in sheets and typescripts - the autograph manuscript of Jean Pavlovky's biography by his daughter Lily de Binder in French and English (16 p in-4), in which we learn that Chekhov and Pavlovsky were compatriots and fellow students, that he was also a friend of Tourgueneff - Lily de Binder's preparatory autograph manuscripts and typescripts (with autograph corrections) - 3 booklets "Extract from Oxford Slavonic Papers" and press articles - correspondence from Claude Gallimard in 1959 to Lily de Binder (who already wanted to publish the letters received from Chekhov and Tourguenieff by her father) - correspondence received by Lily Binder in 1959 from Professor Sergey Konovalov (1899-1982) of Oxford College (3LAS and 2 CAS) - 2 original photographs by Jean Pavlovsky annotated on the back; an original photograph "in the garden of Melikovo" communicated by the USSR Archives (Chekhov's former dacha) - 1 typed letter signed by Marcel Thomas, Chief Curator of the Bibliothèque Nationale, to Jean Selz in 1972, on the death of Lily de Binder, confirming that her bequests had been considerable (including Chekhov's letters to his father) and that he would respect the stipulation that they should not be communicated until 25 years after her death (1997) - 1 typed letter signed by Marcel Thomas, Director of the Literary Archives. signed by the Director of the USSR Literary Archives N. Volkova to Jean Selz in 1973 on Lily's death - correspondence from Patrice Laurent of Editions Klincksieck to Jean Selz in 1976 (with Selz's duplicates) on the subject of the publication of this work, which leads us to believe that it was never published, the publisher declining publication, estimating a maximum of 150 potential sales/Joint: some correspondence in Russian received by Lily de Binder and Jean Selz, including 3 postcards from Taganrog, Chekhov's and Pavlovsky's hometown [the letters deposited at the BNF are now available for consultation, but Jean Selz's work as a historian around them remains unpublished - also unpublished in France is Chekhov's interesting interview on the Dreyfus Affair, as it only appeared in a Russian newspaper at the time.
