NIEVRE - Château de MEAUCE (Saintcaize-Meauce) - Jean-Baptiste MERIGOT (died 1697, advisor, secretary and intendant to the Duke of Nevers, Chevalier de Saint-Lazare et du Mont-Carmel) / Autograph letter signed, 2 p petit in-4, Meauce, October 6, 1696, curious correspondence to a Lady, in which he explains his irritation at length, there is talk of false testimony, corruption, a criminal affair, "never has contempt for one's lord been carried to this excess", "if Monseigneur had given me the answer I expected, this would not have happened", "you will advise Monseigneur and yourself as you please, this is carrying contempt to the last extremity" (n.b.: "Monseigneur" can only mean his master, the Duke of Nevers, the powerful nephew of Cardinal de Mazarin; the letter is potentially addressed to his wife, the Duchesse de Nevers, niece of Madame de Montespan).
