Olympic Games/ summer, 1916, 1924/ Berlin/ Paris/ Revanche/ - Lot 12
Olympic Games/ summer, 1916, 1924/ Berlin/ Paris/ Revanche/ Rugby/ Reims/ Maurice Chevalier/ Abel Petit/ PUC/ SBUC. Two original items:a) book by J.Raymond-Guasco: "Le Collège d'Athlètes, école française de l'Education Physique et des sports" Chez Oudin, 1913 (18,5x12; 52 pages and the famous plan). After the tricolor defeat in Stockholm in 1912, and in order to best prepare for the next Games, those of 1916, which were to be held in Berlin, at the home of the enemy, the monopolizers of Alsace-Lorraine, meticulous military and scientific preparation was essential...The term "Stockholm revenge" was used, and the natural method was the simplest way to achieve a result... Joinville was scratched a little, Georges Rozet was referred to, and the keys to the operation were handed over to Lt Hébert, whose method had proved its worth in Lorient and elsewhere. This famous natural method was to flourish in Reims, where the Marquis de Polignac had a park laid out with this in mind... Pommery was to become a pilot Athletes' College, with Jean Bouin himself as the driving force. Supported by Géo André, Marcel Berger and Frantz-Reichel, the operation took off with our author as General Secretary... The instructions for use are a gem... Applications are sent to Raymond Guasco at "21 place de la Madeleine à Paris". The Great War also wiped out this true Utopia of muscle. And later, Desgrange's idea for Sportville in "L'Auto" never got off the ground...apart from a street naming ceremony. A blue-white-red stone in the history of French muscle. Condition as used; b) Illustrated song: "Rugby Marche" created by Maurice Chevalier (nicely sketched by Abel Petit), music by Lucien Boyer, lyrics by Jean Boyer, published by Salabert 22 rue Chauchat. From the very first sentence, we're right at the heart of the 1924 Games: "All we talk about now are the Olympic Games, which are marvelous, prodigious. Well, of all these athletic sports, the prettiest is rugby....". The rest of the song is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and between the TSF, the PUC and the SBUC, the refrain invites us to cuddle: "Refais-le m'leu... "If this program had been respected, the match between France and the United States would have been less stormy. In passing, a nice jab at soccer. Small tear and trace of tape, but used BE. 27X17,5.
