SAÔNE-ET-LOIRE. CLUNY ABBEY. "Mémoire pour répondre à celui de Monsieur le Procureur de l'Abbaye de Cluny." Late 18th century manuscript, 4 pages in folio. With reply to the Memoire in margin: "The Procurator of the Abbey of CLUNY in reply to the proposals observes to Mr de LA PORTE that the Reverend Father Dom LEMOINE has never been charged on behalf of the community of Cluny to propose to Madame BELLEPERCHE, the Seigniory of St Hypolithe composed of considerable noble rents, tithes, estates, woods, and ponds; in exchange for the possessions of the said Lady in Vitry. Such an exchange would entail a considerable loss for the Abbey. This is why the Abbey's attorney has every reason to believe that the said exchange project concerned only the pond of St Hypolithe and not the entire Seigneurie, one of the Abbey's oldest dependencies, which it will never relinquish unless it finds great advantage in doing so. This is why Mr de LA PORTE is asked to renounce his proposed project, which would be detrimental to the Abbey's interests etc...".
