COMTESSE DE LAVALETTE, ÉmilieLouisede BEAUHARNAIS (1781-1855) was the daughter of Marquis François de Beauharnais, and his wife and cousin Marie-Anne-Françoise de Beauharnais. On her father's side, she was the granddaughter ofFrançois de Beauharnais, Governor of Martinique. On her mother's side, she descended from Claude de Beauharnais, Comtedes Roches-Baritaud. Émilie de Beauharnais was the cousin of HortenseQueen of Holland, EugèneVice-King of Italy and Stéphanie de BeauharnaisGrand Duchess of Baden. On April 22, 1798, she married Antoine Marie Chamans (Directeur des Postes de l'Empire), future Comte de Lavalette, sentenced to death in 1815 (Mme de Beauharnais took part in her husband's escape in 1815), and pardoned in 1822. She is the niece by marriage of Empress Josephine - Letter A.S. without place or date (13th) addressed to M. Bernardet hotel de New-York at Mme de Carl's in Le Havre.
