DUCHESSE DE PLAISANCE, wife of Anne Charles LEBRUN. Sophie de MARBOIS (1785-1854) was the daughter of MarquisFrançois Barbé-Marbois, Intendant of Saint-Domingue and French Minister, and Elizabeth Moore, daughter ofWilliam Moore, Governor ofPennsylvania. In 1802, Sophie married Anne-Charles Lebrun, General, Governor of Holland and eldest son of Charles-François Lebrun, 3rd Consul of France and Prince-Archtreasurer of the First Empire. Settled in Greece after 1830, she made a name for herself there through her philanthropic activities - Letter A.S. written in Paris on February 22, 1812 to a Count concerning his subscription to the Société maternelle. Signed "La Duchesse Charles de Plaisance".
