MADAME ROYALE, Marie-Thérèse de France (1778-1851) 1st daugh - Lot 403
MADAME ROYALE, Marie-Thérèse de France (1778-1851) 1st daughter of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, she was the only daughter to survive the French Revolution. Married to Louis-Antoine d'Artois, Duc d'Angoulême, she took the name of Duchess of Angoulême - Period copy of her Proclamation: "Marie Thérèse Duchesse d'Angoulême" from San Sebastian (Spain), April 12, 1815. Despite the start of the Hundred Days, the royalists are still very active. She is still in Spain, under the protection of her cousin Ferdinand VII, and addresses the French people to be received like her husband, with the white flag: "Proclamation from Madame Duchesse d'Angoulême, granddaughter of the Empress, Daughter of the King of France, First Princess of this name:Virtuous people, gentle, affable and liberal, it is within your walls that, for 20 years of incalculable suffering, I have tasted a moment of satisfaction. It is near you that I have known the truth of the sentiment that has always carried you against the abominable Revolution that deprived me of my entire family: You were the first to provide defenders for the best of Kings: It was you who provided the representatives who fought against the Terror; It was you again, who in the last circumstances dared to speak the truth to Bonaparte; It was you who first received my husband with open arms... Be calm, soon my entry will be made... A well-disciplined army forms my vanguard, its first banner is the white flag; Adopt the sign on your hats and a green ribbon on your arm when they come to deliver you from tyranny... My Cousin the King of Spain charges me to assure you of his protection..." Enclosed his Portrait engraved by Madame Fournier
