Louis ESTANCELIN, General Councillor for Seine-Inférieure in - Lot 470
Louis ESTANCELIN, General Councillor for Seine-Inférieure in 1848, Deputy for SOMME in 1830, archaeologist (Eu (76) 1777 - 1858). Letter A.S. "ESTANCELIN" from Paris, November 28, 1830. 2 pages in-8°: "Monsieur ... I have received with feelings of deep gratitude the Diploma you sent me. I address my thanks to the Société (Savante), in the person of Mr. President... You will agree, Sir, that I have not yet found a moment to devote myself to these studies, these researches which, by making us lose sight of the present time, make us live in past centuries, and thus double our existence... If you have any research to do, any information to obtain, don't hesitate to ask me... You can be sure that circumstances are not conducive to the printing of a work such as the one of which Mr Grillon has been kind enough to share a few fragments with you. Minds are occupied with more serious interests. PARIS is calm, but not cheerful. The malaise of commerce, the estrangement of wealthy consumers, the turbulence of bad heads all influence this state. Let us hope that Peace will not be disturbed, that the rumors of war, which may nonetheless arise from the circumstances, will fade away; God willing, God doing!..."
