Olympic Games/ Coubertin/ Astronomy. Extremely rare booklet - Lot 12
Olympic Games/ Coubertin/ Astronomy. Extremely rare booklet published by the Institut Olympique de Lausanne, its title: "Les étapes de l'Astronomie, l'unité mécanique et l'unité chimique du monde. The life of the stars..." The author? Our beloved Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Yes, he touched everything, even the stars. This is a lecture he gave at the opening of the Ivth Session of the Olympic Institute in Lausanne, on October 8, 1919. In these 28 pages (18x12), spine repaired (scotch tape; Imprimerie Concorde, Lausanne), we discover a sidereal Coubertin, whose conclusion more than ever deserves to be quoted: "Happy if by this brief and pale exposé, I have been able to show you in astronomy not only the vestibule of knowledge, but the forecourt of wisdom, of that modest and strong wisdom, without which modern democracies can neither achieve fruitful equality nor establish lasting peace...". No, Coubertin doesn't need a Pantheon - he's already there, all over the world. Yes, more than ever, his candidacy for the Noble Peace Prize deserves to be defended. High curiosity.
