Olympic Games/ Summer, 1948/ London/
Official torch.
This alumunium alloy torch, signed Ralph Lavers and produced in a run of 1,720, with its three cut-outs in the hearth embracing the five Olympic rings, will travel from Olympia some 3,000 km, carried by 1,416 torchbearers. Relayeurs who are thanked by the inscription: "XIV Olympic Games, London, 1948, Olympia to London, with Thanks to the bearer...".
H. Height : 47cm
Weight : 960 gr
In France, in two stages, first in the East (it arrived from Italy) via Besançon and Nancy, then on the Atlantic (it made a detour in Belgium) via Dieppe, St Omer and Calais, from where it will reach London by boat, it was brandished by 270 bearers over 647 km. This means that bearers covered between one and three kilometers. An important detail: this model was used for the 1956 Games in Melbourne and Cortina, and even at Squaw-Valley in 1960. In the latter case, the print run was infinitesimal.
