La Comtesse D'HOUDETOT, known as Madame d'Houdetot, friend of ROUSSEAU. Élisabeth Sophie Françoise Lalive de Bellegarde (1730-1813), Comtesse d'Houdetot, was the daughter of farmer-general Louis-Denis-Joseph Lalive de Bellegarde and Marie-Thérèse-Josèphe Prouveur. On February 28, 1748, she married Comte d'Houdetot Claude-Constant-César (1724-1806), Maréchal de camp. This writer inspired Jean-Jacques Rousseau to write "La nouvelle Héloïse" and "Confessions". She had a nearly 50-year affair with the poet Jean-François de Saint-Lambert - Lettre A.S. "La Comtesse d'Houdetot". Letter written on March 17 (circa 1750), concerning the furnishing of her home.
