Boxing/ Carpentier/ Liévin/ Monaco/ Reportage - Lot 21
Boxing/ Carpentier/ Liévin/ Monaco/ Reportage Superb set of original press photos (silver print) of our first world boxing champion, Georges CARPENTIER (1894-1975) "The man with the orchid", who had style and class, and as much potato as Parmentier, as Desproges joked. In fact, in 109 "pro" fights, the champion from Liévin, the son of a miner, triumphed 88 times, including 56 by KO. a) Great artistic photo, classic, the handsome pugilist "on guard" by A. Noyer, 1923, AN, 27x22 b) Full reportage, from the fight to the triumphant carry, including the towel waltz, in 9 photos (13x18) by the Rol and Meurisse agencies in good condition (except for one a little chewed up on the right): on May 22, 1912, at the Cirque de Paris, in 20 rounds, he beat American Willie Lewis with his fists, after going to the mat. c) Superb, highly animated photo (he straddles the ropes) of his victorious match against Sullivan in Monaco (29/02/1912) dedicated to an admirer (13x18) A rare, highly varied set of photos of the man who remains one of the greatest French boxers of all time, with multiple French, European and world championship titles (1920) in categories ranging from welterweight to light-heavyweight.
