Cycling/ 1897/ Rouxel/ Buffalo/ Ogé/ Suresnes - Lot 59
Cycling/ 1897/ Rouxel/ Buffalo/ Ogé/ Suresnes Original canvas poster, rare proof from the Verneau printing house, before the final edition: "Cycles Rouxel, Usines et bureaux, 5 bd de Versailles, Suresnes". The final poster is almost here. The sprint between the four riders is launched in the bend, but it quickly turns into a duel, look at the glances between the two frontrunners, the big sulks, the tip-toes (ancestors of the foot brace). We're on board. As the colors were laid down, you can have fun recognizing the champions sketched by the subtle Eugène Ogé (1861-1936). At the time, Suresnes was a capital of velocipedics, thanks to its proximity to the three major velodromes in western Paris (Buffalo, the Seine and the Parc des Princes). The big races started or passed through here, and champions like Huret, Rivierre and Dubois had their own café, not as prestigious as the Espérance de la Grande Armée, but with a friendly atmosphere. Circa 1897. Lithograph. Minor repairs (top left), folds. But general BE.
