Cycling/ Photography/ Beau/ Velodrome/ Buffalo/ Bol d'Or/ Bo - Lot 75
Cycling/ Photography/ Beau/ Velodrome/ Buffalo/ Bol d'Or/ Bordeaux-Paris/Huret/ Aries/ Michael/ Cordang/ Neuilly The complete report on the entire 1897 season of Buffalo Velodrome races covered by master photographer Jules Beau. In a vintage Italian-style binding signed: "Velodromes réunis, Jules Beau, 51 rue de Passy" (19.5 x 27 x 4 cm). The original prints are superbly glued, captioned and dated in the master's fine handwriting. In some 130 original photos, we relive all the pedaling events at the Neuilly velodrome, a favorite of Lautrec, Tristan Bernard and Desgrange. With the exception of a page dedicated to running events, the entire life of the mythical track is represented, from women's folk races (artists' race, cycles fleuris) to the more serious and historic (French championship, Prix Zim, Chase-Huret match, arrival of Bordeaux-PAris (Cordang)). And, of course, the Bol d'Or and its heroes Stein-Aries-Huret (10 docs). All the big names pose or sprint, with their training machines (the Stein quintuplette, the triplette, the tandem). Michael with Choppy, Stocks, Linton, Eros, Robertson, Champion, Chase, Huret, Jacquelin, Bourotte, Armstrong, Ruinart, Bourrillon, Deschamps, etc., are all on parade. The view of the velodrome is unique. A museum piece in near-perfect condition. The layout of the pages, although chronological (we start with the opening prize on April 11), is designed to provoke intense jubilation, in the manner of a soap opera that keeps you on the edge of your seat, moving from a single photo to a double of four images, and so on. An absolute success.
