Cycling/ Poster/ Press/ Women's sports / L'Auto-L'Equipe - Lot 95
Cycling/ Poster/ Press/ Women's sports / L'Auto-L'Equipe Superb original canvas lithograph on the beginnings of the sporting phenomenon, and of the specialized press: "Lisez tous L'Auto-Velo, 10 rue du Fbg Montmartre, Paris" (Read all about L'Auto-Velo, 10 rue du Fbg Montmartre, Paris). By Georges Paulle. Historic poster from 1901-1902. It's the battle between Pierre Giffard's green "Le Vélo" and Henri Desgrange's yellow "L'Auto-Vélo". The former entrusted its posters to the renowned Misti, whose chronicles the elegant woman savors, while the latter placed its trust in a young artist, a reflection of the editorial team, who was betting on modernity, and on women taking part, rather than spectators. In the wake of an automobile (hello Mesdames du Gast, d'Uzès, or Snail) beautifully piloted, scarf in the wind, five sportswomen train in lawn-tennis, cycling, canoeing, horse-riding or skating. They are accompanied by an experienced mountaineer. Their guide is the "Auto-Vélo". Paulle-Paulme also worked for Gladiator and Stimulus cycles, as well as for skating. 47.5 x 100.5 cm. BE. Only four known examples.
