Tennis/ Petra - Lot 135
Tennis/ Petra How better to capture the wingspan of "L'Albatros de Cholon" than with this brass-cut silhouette? Yvon Petra (1916-1984) was a high-flying bird, with a cannon of a serve at almost 2 meters tall. Cap firmly screwed on, long pants fitted, there he was on the lawn of Wimbledon on July 6, 1946, wringing out the Australian Geoff Brown in the Wimbledon singles final. It took him 5 sets, but that was the price he had to pay to go down in the history of the great tournament. He is 30 years old. Since then, no other Frenchman has done better. Monsieur Hulot, his look-alike, had his looks, but not his serve. Turning pro in 1948, Yvon entered another world. 37 x 30 cm, on hollow base (small missing), 41 cm high. Unsigned, but in the manner of Haguenauer's 1930s marvels.
