Olympic Games/ summer, 1904/ Saint-Louis/Coubertin/ Opening - Lot 166
Olympic Games/ summer, 1904/ Saint-Louis/Coubertin/ Opening Four documents shed light on these Games, which are as remote as they are important: a) "World's Fair Bulletin, n°5, March 1903, St Louis, USA, 40 pages on preparations, where Baron de Coubertin appears, 34.5 x 26 cm (cover missing) b) First page of "Programme, "Daily Official Programme, World's fair, Louisiana, Purchase, Exposition, St Louis, USA, 1904, 16p" (this view of the expo was used as a poster), by St John. Tear at left, 23 x 15.5 cm c) Issue of the famous newspaper "Le Temps" of May 25, 1904, with a detailed description of the Exposition's opening ceremony by Paul Adam (special envoy) on two inside pages. BE, the issue of "Petit Temps" of the same day is enclosed. d) The Official Plan: "The Official Ground Plan of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition 1904, St. Louis, Mo" by D.R. Francis and Isaac Taylor, 51x28 (in 24 panels, i.e. 3 flights of 8). An astonishing document that finally shows the exact location of the very small sports venues in the lower right-hand corner. Spectacular, unstoppable.
