Olympic Games/ summer, 1920/ Antwerp/ Nadi/ Fencing/ Italy/ - Lot 181
Olympic Games/ summer, 1920/ Antwerp/ Nadi/ Fencing/ Italy/ USSR
Four pieces on the omnipresence of Italy at the Antwerp Games:
a) Three issues of "La Domenica del Corriere" with the superb drawings of Italian master Achille Beltrame (1871-1945) on the front page. Here, he's all the more inspired as he celebrates the exploits of fellow countrymen, walker Ugo Frigerio (who flies over the 3,000 m) and transalpine fencers, with the fabulous brothers Aldo (1899-1965) and Nedo Nadi (1894-1940). The King of the Belgians can congratulate them warmly: between them, they win 9 medals, eight of them gold. Nedo has five, and as he already had one in 1912, his personal total is 6 gold. His younger brother has three, plus a silver. With a harvest like that, Achille's pencil can fly (issues from August 29 to September 5 - 39 x 28 cm for athletics, from September 12 to 19 for fencing -40 x 29 cm, 2 copies of the latter, one in average condition);
b) A new schoolbook (20.5 x 15 cm), with a colored hurdler on the cover: Anversa, VII Olympiade, Quaderni di, with the Italian and Belgian flags, on the 4th cover, the saga of the Games in Italian, encircled by the flags of 20 countries, including the USSR (curiosity).
