Olympic Games/ Summer 1988/ Seoul - Lot 309
Olympic Games/ Summer 1988/ Seoul The official torch of the second Games to be held in Asia, following those in the Land of the Rising Sun in 1964, and awaiting those in the Middle Kingdom in 2008, this beautiful torch is the perfect ambassador for the "Games of the XXIVth Olympiad, Seoul 1988". That's what it says on the edge of the circular red plastic lower guard, with a Korean double. The brown leather grip handle is in fine condition, with its 6-hole perforated pads. On the ambitious pre-furnace, logos and rings strut their stuff. On the furnace (diam: 10.5), the two dragons twirl around. The diameter of the hearth is 3.5 cm, and the holes to facilitate firing are no accident: there are 24 of them, the vintage of these mature and well-organized Games. Total height: 50 cm. Slight traces of oxidation, tiny chip on the hearth. Signed by Lee Woo-Sing, this significant torch, in a limited edition of 3,300, was carried 15,290 km by 20,899 torchbearers.
