Olympic Games/ Summer 2024/ Paris - Lot 326
Olympic Games/ Summer 2024/ Paris
THE official torch of the Paris Games, the 33rd Olympiad.
This torch, one of the 1,500 sent from Marseille to Paris after completing its Tour de France and enchanting nearly 11,000 torchbearers, tells some wonderful stories.
Its steel sings, its graphics speak of equality, water and appeasement like a totem pole. It's signed by designer Mathieu Lehanneur, whose name is a Canadian trapper, or even better, a scout. And that was exactly his mission. If we said he'd done it right, we'd fear for Coubertin's moustache, but if we said it was a torch made with the finest onions, would we see it as a sufficient tribute to French gastronomy? In short, this torch may be made of steel, but it's a matchless alloy.
It measures 70 cm, and weighs 1kg500. Our example, in its official prestige case, has been reconditioned after its peregrinations. An exceptional piece.
