NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Gemini IV mission, June 3, 1965. Historic photograph of astronaut Ed. H. White becomes the first American to "fly" in Space. He wears a special spacesuit with a gold-plated helmet to protect him from the sun. A 7.5-meter umbilical cord connects him to his spaceship, as does a tether, both bound in gold adhesive tape. In his right hand, the astronaut holds a hand-held self-maneuvering unit (HHSMU), enabling him to control his movements in Space. Later chromogenic print. Numbering on front.
