NASA. LARGE FORMAT. RARE. LUNAR ORBITER III Mission, "SPACE - Lot 39
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. RARE. LUNAR ORBITER III Mission, "SPACE CRAFT FRAME #121, HIGH RESOLUTION". Dark side of the Moon. March 23, 1967. The aim of the "LUNAR ORBITER" Mission was to carry out detailed mapping of the lunar surface and to help locate the preferred landing sites for future APOLLO missions. The "LUNAR ORBITER" space probes used sophisticated photographic equipment to take photographs which were developed in lunar orbit, scanned and sent back to Earth in the form of analog signals. These signals were then decoded to produce superb photographic lunar landscapes. All have the remarkable feature of being taken at the zenith of their observation surface. Vintage silver print. Legend and references in the margin on the front. 57.3 x 51.2 cm with margins.
