Comte de MAUREPAS (Jean-Frédéric PHÉLYPEAUX) 1701-1781, Secr - Lot 155
Comte de MAUREPAS (Jean-Frédéric PHÉLYPEAUX) 1701-1781, Secretary of State, Minister of the Navy - Letter signed MAUREPAS, written from the Château de FONTAINEBLEAU (77) on September 28, 1740, to M. FEYDEAU DE MARVILLE. 1 page in-4°: "The proposal, Sir, which is contained in the Memorandum cannot take place, because it is assumed that the Munitionnaire has already made his provisions (of Wheat) in Languedoc; which is not the case: He even reports that he is very embarrassed and that he takes them where he can because he finds himself hampered both in Poitou and in Brittany from where Wheat is drawn for the supply of PARIS. What's more, since this supply is for BREST and ROCHEFORT, the replacement we would make at TOULON would become useless to him. I am very pleased to learn of the order and tranquility of the markets and the natural decrease in abundance...".
