MARTINIQUE. 6 Letters from 1743 to 1862: Commercial letter from Martinique on June 12, 1743, to Honoré ROUX in Marseille (Defects). He offers his services and makes a long list of everything that can be sold with assured profits, from Provençal wine, cheese and velvet to ragout spoons, writing cases, shoe buckles and garters. "If you wish to honor me with your trust" + Letter from Paris, May 13, 1777, addressed to the Marquis de DRÉ at his hotel in Roanne, concerning property located in Martinique from the estate of Mr. le Marquis de Champigné + Letter from St Pierre, Martinique, May 16, 1822, signed GERVAIS, to his friend Maitre Courtier maritime in Blaye... Sugar loads on ships + Nice friendly letter from Vauclin-Martinique August 1, 1842, to his brother in Duravel, Lot. (Defects): "...Here we have opened large roads, built bridges, and we maintain them at great expense in the midst of public misery, because trade is almost nil, sugars and coffees, the former are almost for nothing, and we can't find to sell them. These two commodities are the product of our soil, the only resources of the once rich and flourishing French colonies, which brought in many millions for the French national treasury...
