Sugar loads on ships + Nice friendly letter from Vauclin-Martinique August 1, 1842, to his brother in Duravel, Lot. (Defects): "...Here we have opened large roads, built bridges, and we maintain them at great expense in the midst of public misery, because trade is almost nil, sugars and coffees, the former are almost for nothing, and we can't find to sell them. These two commodities are the product of our soil, the only resources of the once rich and flourishing French colonies, which brought in many millions for the French national treasury... We don't have to deplore misfortunes similar to yours caused by your locomotives... because we don't have wagons to travel in. We travel by sea or by land, on foot or on horseback...". He speaks of the earthquake in Haiti, formerly Saint-Domingue + Letter from Auteuil, addressed to Vauclin-Ile Martinique March 15, 1837 + Letter from St Pierre Martinique December 24, 1862, to Mr FOULD Banquier in Paris.
