Philippe de NOAILLES, Duc de MOUCHY, Maréchal de France en 1 - Lot 267
Philippe de NOAILLES, Duc de MOUCHY, Maréchal de France en 1775 - Letter Signed "Maréchal Duc de MOUCHY", in PARIS January 12, 1782. 1p 1/2 in-folio - about the CROIX DE SAINT LOUIS requested by Chevalier de GIMEL: "I am well aware, Monsieur, that Chevalier DE GIMEL does not have the time required by the ordinance for the Croix de Saint Louis, but the same ordinance excludes actions of war. It appears from the certificate of the General of the Spanish Army in PENSACOLA that Chevalier DE GIMEL contributed greatly to the Capture, perhaps it is advantageous that it be proved by the distinguished reward of this Officer that without the French this conquest might have been missed by the Spaniards; I am interested in Mr DE GIMEL and have contributed to the promotion of the Lieutenant-Colonel of the METZ Regiment. He served with great distinction, is riddled with wounds and has never left the flag; Mrs DE GIMEL are people of good House and I have several grandmothers of their name which increases my interest. I hope you will not find it inconvenient to grant this pardon. I have written to M. de GRIBAUVAL to do everything according to the rule you so rightly love..."
