MARINE. MARTINIQUE. 1785. Jean René Antoine Marquis de VERDUN DE LA CRENNE, Naval Officer and Scientist. Capitaine de Vaisseau Commandant la Station Navale des Iles du Vent in March 1785 and promoted to Chef de Division in 1786. (Aucey/ Manche1741-1805) - Letter signed aboard the Vaisseau "LE RÉFLÉCHY" in the harbor of FORT ROYAL (Martinique) on December 15, 1785. 1p large folio. "It is ordered to Mr de ST OURS Capitaine de Vaisseau Commandant la frégate du Roy l'IRIS, to set sail from the harbor of FORT ROYAL (Martinique) to go to SAINT PIERRE (Martinique) to complete his water supply, from where he will then go to Guadeloupe to stop the completion of his ship and put in the prescribed forms, to Mr. De La Bouchetière Capitaine de Vaisseau Commandant la Frégate LA CLÉOPATRE, the ship or ships armed by the officers and crew of the Frégate L'IRIS, which he will bring back on board, with the exception of the men from the Département du Ponant, whom he will leave at Mr. de La Bouchetière's disposal. When he has completed his arrangements, he will sail directly to Toulon" to disarm.
