THE MINES. REVOLUTION. "Loi relative aux MINES", July 28, 1791. Printed in Montpellier (Hérault) in 1791; 19 pages in-4° and certified by 3 Administrators of the District of Béziers. Law in 21 articles: "Titre premier: Des mines en général. Art. 1°) Mines and pits, both metallic and non-metallic, as well as bitumens, earth or stone coals and pyrites, are at the disposal of the Nation; in this sense only, with its consent and under its supervision, on the charge of compensating, according to the rules that will be prescribed, the owners of the surface, who will enjoy in addition those of these mines that can be exploited, or with open trench, or with pit and light, to a depth of one hundred feet only." Title 2, des Mines de Fer. "Art 2) In the future, no factory may be established for smelting ores, except after a permission has been granted by the Corps législatif, on the advice of the Département in whose area this establishment is planned."
