Pair of berodo yuzen velvet hangings depicting a pair of lions with their cubs.
Berodo yuzen velvet was invented in 1868 and was woven by passing the threads through thin metal wires parallel to the weft, then cut to form the velvet. The precision of the cut creates a three-dimensional effect.
Both signed and mounted on stretchers.
Japan, Meiji period
