Mattingly, command module pilot and Fred W. Naise Jr. lunar module pilot. The Apollo 13 mission was the 3rd in the lunar program, but did not see man walk on the Moon due to a material incident during the translunar flight that endangered the astronauts' lives. The whole world followed the adventure of the three astronauts who heroically circumnavigated the Moon before returning safely to Earth. March 24, 1970.
