NASA. Beautiful and rare first view of the space shuttle CHA - Lot 128
NASA. Beautiful and rare first view of the space shuttle CHALLENGER (Mission STS-7), whose silhouette is perfectly outlined by the darkness of space. The photograph was taken with the Free-flying Shuttle Pallet Satellite (SPAS-01). Clearly visible in the shuttle's payload bay are the protective cradles for Telesat's Anik C2 and Palapa B communications satellites, NASA's Office of Space and Earth Applications (OSTA-2) pallet, the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) and the KU-band antenna. The STS-7 astronaut crew with the RMS arm then retrieved the SPAS and returned it to its stowed position in the payload bay for the return to Earth. June 22, 1983. Vintage chromogenic print on "THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK" paper. Label on back. 20.2 x 25.6cm with margins.
