Nasa. This photograph is a mosaic of two images taken by the HUBBLE space telescope. The roughly natural color is assembled from images taken in blue, green and red light. The blue color is due to the light from extremely hot newborn stars. The red-yellow color is due partly to hot gas, partly to older stars in the elliptical galaxy and partly to the scattering of blue light by dust - the same effect that produces brilliant orange sunsets on Earth. 1998. Vintage chromogenic print. Numbering on front. Label on back. 20.4 x 25.5cm with margins.
