NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Superb view of a supernova remnant about - Lot 349
NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Superb view of a supernova remnant about 11,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. It extends over some 10 light-years. On the exterior of the remnant, particularly at the top and left, are curtains of matter appearing orange and red due to the emission of hot dust. These curtains mark the point where the material ejected by the exploded star collides with the surrounding circumstellar matter. Within this outer envelope are bright-pink mottled filaments, dotted with clusters and knots. This is the material of the star itself, which probably glows due to a mixture of various heavy elements and dust emission. Stellar matter is also visible in the form of fainter will-o'-the-wisps inside the cavity. A loop shown in green extends along the right-hand side of the central cavity. Its shape and complexity are unexpected and difficult for scientists to understand.
This image from the Webb telescope's MIRI camera combines several filters.
