NASA. LARGE FORMAT. This NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) image from NASA's Webb Space Telescope of a star-forming region shows how stellar winds from bright, hot young stars carve out cavities in the surrounding gas and dust. The bright orange streaks in this image indicate the presence of carbon-based molecules. As we move away from the immediate dust cavities where the star is forming, the darker red indicates the presence of molecular hydrogen. This cooler gas provides an ideal environment for star formation. Hydrogen ionized by ultraviolet radiation appears as a ghostly white and blue glow. This star-forming region is located in the Triangulum galaxy (M33), 2.73 million light-years from Earth. Vintage chromogenic print. References in the margin on the front.
