PRINTED HMAYIL, 1716 Prophylactic scroll or phylactery (hmayil, հմայիլ) printed on laid paper by Asdvadzadour of Constantinople (Kostandnup?lsets'i). Constantinople, dated in the final colophon 1165 EA or 1716 AD. 27 standing woodcuts, enhanced with watercolors, some signed with the monogram ?? (GR) or ?? (GM) for Krikor son of Meguerditch of Marzivan (Merzifon) or Grigor Marzuanets'i (Գրիգոր Մարզուանեցի)... This roll is exceptional for its length: around 8m. The first meter is badly damaged and roughly restored. The rest is in good condition. Numerous consolidations, sometimes with scotch tape. The recipient's name, Ordou, has been added throughout the interstices.
