PORTRAIT OF TIGRAN THE GREAT, KING OF ARMENIA Exceptional amethyst intaglio. Kingdom of Armenia, 1st century B.C. Size: 21 x 16 mm. Weight: 1.9 g. Provenance: former Dutch collection. Longitudinally pierced for a suspension wire or metal hook. Uncleaned, traces of burial. The intaglio will be reproduced in Arsen Yarman's forthcoming book Jewelry and Armenian Goldsmiths Under the Ottomans (see lot 127 of this catalog).
