Hadji Mirza Ismaïl was the civil administrator (Hokmran) of the Erivan Khanate until the annexation of Armenia by the Russian Empire in February 1828. In the background, on the left, you can see the Yerevan fortress known as the Sardar Palace. Aleksander Orlowski, born in Warsaw, was a Polish painter and draughtsman. After the partition of Poland, he settled in the Russian Empire, where he was a pioneer of lithography. A lithograph of our painting was executed by Orlowski himself.
